Aurifil Color Builders 2022 from Sew Karen-ly Created...

Aurifil has just announced the details of their 2022 Colour Builders, and it looks pretty amazing!  This highly successful thread-of-the-month program is now heading into its third year season, with each year building on the success of the previous.  As a dealer, I participated for the first time this past year and have to say that everything ran like clockwork.  It’s a super way to build your thread stash and save a bit off the price of individual spools while doing do.  Personally, I loved going to my thread rack and having just the shade I needed at my ...

A new pattern! from Sew Karen-ly Created...

I've had a quilt rattling around in my head for a bit and I am happy to say the pattern has become a reality.

"Encircling" is a great design to showcase large prints and gorgeous florals, and when I saw Tula Pink's "Curiouser and Curiouser" line I knew it was perfect.  A trip to Mrs Pugsley's Emporium in Amherst yielded this stack of Fat Quarters.  I paired it with Fairy Dust for the background, and a black solid for the rings and binding.

It was fun to see how closely the fabric matches the artwork on the ...

Aurifil Colour Builders 2021 from Sew Karen-ly Created...

As you may have read on the Aurifil blog, the Colour Builders program for 2021 has been announced, and sign-ups are now being accepted.  The Colour Builders program is a no-fuss monthly subscription service hosted by your favorite Aurifil thread dealer – that's me! – whereby you receive a curated selection of threads each month, paper-piecing and embroidery patterns using the theme and colours, AND help  out a worthy cause while building your thread stash.  It’s a win all around!

Last year the very successful program highlighted different areas of Italy;  this year will focus on a cause that falls ...

Holiday Shopping?? from Sew Karen-ly Created...

I am happy to say that the commissioned banner has been delivered to its forever home, (pictures to follow) so new projects can now be begun.

With that off my plate, the first task was to clean up my sewing room, a dreaded ordeal which has not been attended to in some months.  While purging, I listened to music and newscasts, one of which was a news release from Canada Post, urging folks to start their Christmas shopping - and shipping - early, as it is anticipated most folks will be ordering online this Covid season.  The only thing worse than a ...

Wholecloth Quilting from Sew Karen-ly Created...

A couple of weeks' back I started machine quilting a whole cloth quilt as part of my "self-threaducation" during lockdown.  I have set myself the task of trying out different weights of Aurifil threads in various applications to see how they look. As a dealer for this wonderful product I feel I should not just offer the thread for sale, but actually know how it performs in various applications.
The stitching was a breeze, but getting a good picture has been tricky!
This is a pre-printed kit from Benartex;  on their website it is entitled simply Nautical Wallhanging, but it ...

Mother's Day Thread Special from Sew Karen-ly Created...

We are just about to turn another calendar page into May, where we mark one of our favourite special days: Mother's Day. This year instead of taking our Mom out to dinner, or bringing the kids for a visit, we will fete her long distance.
Mother's Day to me is a day associated with "girly" treats - flowers, chocolates, lacy pretty things.  To that end, we will be offering special packaging and gift-wrap for all Mother's Day Aurifil thread orders. You choose the colours and weights of thread Mom loves, and we will do it up pretty (and ...

Aurifil Thread Goodies! from Sew Karen-ly Created...

We are all keeping busy, busy: sewing masks, isolation quilts, and now...comfort quilts. The demand for quality thread is high, and we have lots of the best.  Earlier this week, we received more Aurifil collections for our online shop. (There were actually more than this, but the stack kept tipping!!)
Some were old favourites we've had before and sold out of, and others are new to us.  All are gorgeous.
Everyone loves Edyta Sitar's designs and she has curated lovely collections to coordinate with her projects.  Her "Over the Rainbow" collection says, "A colour wheel of threads ...

Business as Usual! from Sew Karen-ly Created...

From reading FB posts, I see that many shops are scrambling to get their wares online so that their sales can continue. Did you know that Sew Karen-ly Created has had online ordering since 1993? Yes, you read that correctly – 1993, 27 YEARS! (Robin Hood flour didn’t go online until 1997!) I honestly believe I have the oldest, continually running quilt-related website in Canada. Originally it was just my patterns, but since then I’ve added two of my books, and a HUGE selection of my beloved Aurifil thread. (The other books I’ve worked on are available ...
